This Sunday, 4th June, is the feast of Pentecost, and services will be 8.00 Holy Communion and 10.30 Parish Eucharist. It is the third great festival of the year, after Easter and Christmas, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. Everyone is invited to wear national dress or something red to show that we rejoice in our diversity and the power of the Spirit. The liturgy at 10.30 will have some distinctive elements and we’ll share special refreshments afterwards.

Pentecost and Prebendary Installation
I will be installed as the Prebendary of Portpool in St Paul’s Cathedral during Evensong at 3.15 pm on Sunday. Everyone is very welcome to attend. Do try to be seated by 3 pm, and tell the stewards you are my guests, so they can show you to reserved seats. (We have cancelled Evensong in St Mary’s.)
The period from Ascension to Pentecost is a time of concentrated prayer for God’s kingdom to come. It is fitting that we conclude this time of prayer just before we go to the polls in this country to choose a new government. Every Christian of 18 and over has a moral duty to vote, to do so after careful thought, prayer and research, and to respect those with whom we may disagree but with whom we continue to share fellowship in the Body of Christ.
