Youthwork | Children, Sunday School

The main service at St Mary’s is the Parish Eucharist. It starts at 10.30am and finishes about 11.45am. Christians of all denominations are welcome to receive holy communion. When you come forward, please bring your child with you for a blessing.

Feel free to use the Parish Room at the back of church where you are still able to follow the service if your child gets restless – particularly during the sermon! If all else fails, take them for a stroll on Primrose Hill!

The toilets are at the back of church, one of which has a changing facility. After the service coffee is served. Please stay and enjoy some conversation and meet other parents and members of the congregation. We ask you to keep an eye on your children as there are a number of elderly people, some of whom are unsteady on their feet.

Sunday School

We value children and children need values to live by.

The Sunday School operates most Sundays during term-time across the road in our church school, St Paul’s. It begins at 10.25am and if parents can stay to help set up the benches and put mats out it is always appreciated. The class usually starts with some songs, it moves into story telling which they act out and finally they work on an associated craft. The Sunday School for the older children involves activities, games and discussion to help them learn more about the Christian faith. The older children come across to church in time for the Peace, and the younger children in time for communion.

Infants/Juniors 3 – 8 years
Juniors 9 – 11 years

Sunday School Away Weekend

Each year in the Spring we organise an Away-Weekend for parents and children at the Oast Houses in West Sussex. It’s a small Christian Residential Centre with fabulous facilities, and in easy reach of the coast (5 miles away) and various local beauty spots. We organise activities and workshops for the children. It’s great fun, and a great way for parents to get to know one another better, particularly over a glass of red wine when we’ve packed the kids off to bed!

The next weekend will be 27th – 30th May 2011. Book early to be assured of a place because spaces are limited. For further details please contact the Reverend Linda Dean.

After school groups

Every Thursday & Friday in church there are after school clubs for local young people. Years 4 & 5 meet on Thursday and Year 6 on Friday (normally) from 4-5.30pm. The aim of the group is to provide a fun and stable environment where young people can build strong relationships and enjoy themselves, particularly as they near the end of their time in primary school and make the transition to secondary school.
