Prayer walks began as a wish to expand the medieval custom of walking the parish boundary once a year. This was necessary when few people could read, and maps were scarce. Boundaries were walked, in order to establish land rights for the parish. Any route which was not walked regularly would need beating in order to make it passable - from this came the title, “Beating the Bounds”.

Join Fr. Phil as he undertakes this old tradition for the first time at St Mary’s. We will meet at the church and set off at 1:30pm. We will arrive back at church for afternoon tea.
